Staff at the Village Hotel Walsall warming up on the barbeque for the beach party weekend
A Walsall hotel is throwing a beach party, complete with surfing, Hawaiian shirts and a Zumba workout for the whole family, in a bid to help people get in shape for the summer.
The Village Hotel, just off junction 10 of the M6, is hosting the leisure weekend on June 25 and 26, to persuade people to get more active.
“The whole weekend is to encourage people to get exercising, but to have fun with it, which is why we have chosen the beach theme. People associate the beach with enjoying themselves, but they also want to look good, so we are offering them a helping hand,” explained Damian Goom, general manager of The Village.
“There will also be a barbeque and disco in the evening, which will be free for our gym members, but is open to the public too.
“We have some eye-catching attire for our spin teachers, who will be holding classes throughout the weekend, whilst the rest of our staff will be in beach wear - we are looking forward to everyone having a really great time,” he added.
The Zumba class will be open to people of all ages, from toddlers and teens to pensioners, and because it combines Latin and international music with a fun and effective workout, it is great exercise whatever your abilities.
Guests can also show off their board skills on the surf simulator, which will be situated on “the beach” outside the entrance to the hotel.
As well as exercise classes for adults and youngsters, there will also be tours of the hotel’s leisure facilities throughout the weekend, for anyone wanting to find out more about the 25 metre pool, spa and state-of-the-art gym. There is also a special offer on gym membership throughout the weekend.
Children’s classes include karate, Olympic Dreams, which are training circuits for youngsters, mini football, dodge ball, mini lacrosse and extreme Frisbee.
“There will be something for everyone - parents can join in a class whilst their children get involved in some exercises themselves, and then the whole family can enjoy an activity together, followed by some great food and a dance at the disco,” said Mr Goom.
“We may be some distance from the coast here in Walsall, but just for next weekend, it is going to feel like a seaside resort!”
The fun starts at 10am on Saturday, June 25, and continues throughout the weekend.

*The car park will be transformed into a beach, for this event. If there’s bad weather, the classes will be held inside the hotel.
