Organisers of the Compton Hospice It’s a Knockout Competition are hoping competitors will flock to this year’s contest with the chance to dress up as a seven-foot tall giant budgie.
The It’s a Knockout competition is set to be the highlight of charity’s Compton on the Park fun day at Wolverhampton’s West Park on Sunday June 26.
The enormous feathery fancy dress is just one of the costumes from the original BBC TV series that contestants will try out as they take on a series of fun-packed, water- filled challenges on the day.
Organisers are looking for teams of eight to sign-up for the contest, with team mates negotiating a total of six games on the It’s a Knockout course.
More than 4,000 people came along to the first Compton in the Park fun day in 2010, raising more than £20,000 for the hospice.
This year the day will feature live bands, displays for all the family, dozens of stalls with more than 500 walkers, joggers and cyclists expected to take part in the hospice’s annual five-mile memory walk around West Park.
The crazy games include Bird Cage Rage where team mates take turns building a bird’s nest dressed as giant budgies and then try to tread carefully dressed as 10ft tall giants in Fe Fi Fo Fall.
A series of inflatable and water-soaked games, Medieval Madness, Slippery Summit, Hats On and All Hands on Deck, make up the laugh-a-minute line-up for the contest.
A team from Ettingshall-based water cooler firm Angel Springs, the UK’s leading water cooler service provider, have already entered after taking part in last year’s contest.
Angel Springs team organiser Rachel Jones said: “It’s a Knockout is an absolutely fantastic laugh, when else do you get the chance to dress up as massive budgie to make a nest and be part of a superb day, it’s really not a chance to be missed.
“Our team this year is the same as last time just because everyone had such a great time they all wanted to do it again,” she said.
Contest organiser Simon Cater, corporate fundraiser at Compton Hospice, said: “Everybody has a brilliant time taking part in It’s a Knockout and there’s a great reaction from the crowd with the contest being the highlight of the hospice fun day.
“Anyone can take part in a team of eight so that can be workmates, family and relatives or neighbours and friends getting together, we’re looking for 12 teams in total.”
