WE'RE looking forward to reading some really entertaining articles after spending an afternoon talking about newspapers with pupils from Moat Hall Primary School in Great Wyrley.
Carol and Helen went along to the school to help the youngsters get started on an ambitious project in which they will work with other pupils from across Europe to produce a newspaper together.
We helped them get to grips with the various roles within a newsroom, as well as offering tips on how to find and write news stories.
The enthusiasm from the audience, from the five-year-olds through to the 11-year-olds was fantastic, and we were impressed with how knowledgable a lot of them already were.
“Even the youngest ones had a pretty good understanding of the types of stories they want to write for the paper, and how they are going to work together to do this,” said Helen.
“It’s going to be quite a feat, putting together a newspaper with children from other countries, but given how keen the children are, I’m sure they will make a brilliant job of it.”
Patricia McSorley, head teacher at Moat Hall, said the children had thoroughly enjoyed learning more about papers, and couldn’t wait to get started on the project.
“They are going to produce their own class newspapers to begin with, which should be good practice for the European project, along with all the new knowledge they gained from listening to Helen and Carol.”
Best of luck to everyone involved – it’s good to see the future of journalism looking so bright.

Lovely picture Helen and well done on being so brilliant.
