COMPTON Hospice is inviting people to ‘Light up a Life’ at an annual service which helps remember loved ones who are no longer with us during the festive season.
Hundreds of people have flocked to the event for the past three years, after the hospice expanded their traditional memorial service to include carols by candlelight and the chance for visitors to make a unique dedication.
The service, which is being sponsored by Birmingham Midshires building society, will be held at the main hospice site on Compton Road West on Sunday, December 7 at 3.30 pm
The free event is open to anyone who has been touched by the hospice’s work and family members or friends can dedicate a light on the hospice’s ‘tree of life’ as a tribute to someone special.
Compton Hospice Head of PR Sue Chance said: “Once again, our Light up a Life ceremony promises to be a truly inspiring and poignant event.
"Christmas is a time when our thoughts are even more so with family and friends, and the Light up a Life service gives us the chance to remember those no longer with us, celebrating their life in a truly uplifting way.
“We’ll be joined by the Salvation Army band who will provide music for the event, and families will share their own special memories with us.”
The service is the climax of the Light up a Life Appeal which in previous years has raised more than £30,000 towards the support offered to patients and families currently facing the challenge of a life-limiting illness.
Those who can’t attend can still Light up a Life by sending in a donation and a message of dedication. The hospice will send a gift to hang on their own Christmas tree as affirmation that a light on the tree of life is shining in honour of their loved one.
