IF you have a child and a digital camera, you have all you need to enter Posers' fantastic Friends Through a Lens competition.
The Brewood photography firm is inviting youngsters to pick up a camera and capture a picture of someone important to them, to help raise money for a children’s cancer charity.
The competition is aimed at inspiring young people to think about a person who means the world to them, and how they can best show their subject in a photograph.
The competition will be split into three age categories, with fantastic prizes of a family portrait sitting and mounted picture for each of the winners, plus their winning photograph reproduced on a t-shirt, mug and keyring.
Lisa Lloyd, who owns Posers, came up with the idea of the competition after meeting the operations manager of NACCPO – The National Alliance of Childhood Cancer Parent Organisations, and was so moved by the cause that she wanted to find a way to support them.
The charity is made up of parent-run organisations, all with the common aim of working together to support children with cancer, and their families.
“I have two children myself, and can’t imagine what families must go through on discovering that a child has cancer,” said Miss Lloyd.
“I want to do something really positive to help NACCPO, which is doing fantastic work to help people get through some enormously tough times.
“I am passionate about my family and photography, and wanted to find a way of getting youngsters to think about who’s important to them, and how to use that to make great photographs, which will ultimately be a fitting tribute to the charity.
“Your subject could be anyone from your mum to your neighbour, dinner lady, local shopkeeper, or a friend. The important bit is getting a good picture and then telling us why they mean so much to you.
“We are asking that everyone who enters donates at least £1 with their photograph, which will all be sent to NACCPO to help support their fantastic work.”
Rachael Olley, the operations manager for NACCPO, who met Miss Lloyd at a networking event in Staffordshire, said she was delighted to hear about the competition, and can’t wait to see what photographs and subjects young people come up with.
Having had her own son diagnosed with cancer at just five-years-old, Mrs Olley, from Stafford, is perfectly placed to co-ordinate the charity, and said backing such as this is invaluable to the families involved.
“We are a relatively young charity, having only formed in 1999, but we have grown considerably since then, and have helped support so many families as a result of such generous fund-raising events.”
The three age categories will be 3-7, 8-12 and 13-17.
