Congratulations to staff from Colin Lee Opticians who between them have clocked up more than 500 years’ service – longer than the Roman Empire survived.
The loyal employees were treated to a knees up recently as part of the company's 30th anniversary celebrations.
They joined the company’s directors at Aston Wood Golf Club to mark the milestone anniversary.
As well as a chance for everyone to relax and enjoy the event, three staff were recognised for having each worked for the business for 20 years , and a further two who have reached 10 years.
Altogether, the 50 employees and directors clock up a staggering 570 years between them at seven practices across the West Midlands and Staffordshire.
Director Clive Marchant said it was amazing to think about the figures involved, and he had been thrilled that so many staff were able to enjoy the birthday event.
“We pride ourselves on being a family firm, and one which looks after and supports our staff, and it does seem that most of the people who have joined our team have tended to stay around for quite a while, so we are hopefully doing something right,” he said.
“Since establishing the company, Colin has always tried to be innovative, introducing a career structure into our industry where it had never really existed before, and I think it’s developments like this which have helped to build such a loyalty amongst our staff.”
Gifts were given to Sheila Gilchrist and Maria Maley, both from Aldridge practice and Peggs Hems from Lichfield, all of whom have achieved 20 years service, and Vanessa Collier, from Tamworth, and Lyn Benger, from Aldridge, both of whom have clocked up a decade.
Jo Marchant, from the Lichfield practice, was also presented with a gift in recognition of her 15 years’ service, as she is due to retire at the end of the year.
As well as a chance to celebrate the firm’s big birthday, the event also raised more than £700 for charity, after staff took part in a prize raffle. The money will be split between Vision Aid Overseas and Breast of Friends, a cancer charity based in Sutton Coldfield.
