ORGANISERS of a glittering event to raise cash for wounded servicemen and women to be held at RAF Cosford are appealing for people to help aid their recovery by coming along and have a great night out.
The summer ball, on July 12, hosted by senior officers, will boost the coffers of Help for Heroes, a national charity also backed by stars including David Beckham, Sir Michael Caine and singer James Blunt.
It’s hoped that the James Bond themed evening, celebrating the centenary of Ian Fleming’s birth, can raise more than £50,000 for services personnel injured in Afghanistan and Iraq. Nationally, Help for Heroes has already raised more than £5 million.
The magnificent RAF Swing Wing Band is top of the bill and will entertain guests as they sip cocktails, before TV’s Stars in their Eyes winner Yvonne Milligan performs, supported by her dancers and Dicky Dodd from 107.7 The Wolf.
Guests can also enjoy a five-course dinner before chancing their luck at the casino tables and bidding at a luxury auction hosted by Tettenhall estate agent David Berriman, with exclusive prizes supplied by local businesses.
Help for Heroes Staffordshire and Shropshire county co-ordinator, Jeremy Hobbs, said: “By attending, people can not only be a part of this unique event but also support our injured serving personnel who on a regular basis continue to return from combat in Iraq and Afghanistan.”
He added that he would also like to thank the businesses and organisations who have backed the event so far. These include Kodak who have heavily sponsored the event and Aston Martin who have supplied an exclusive tour of their factory as an auction prize.
The event is also being backed by the RAF Museum and Stafford-based caterers, Jenkinsons.
Tickets cost £70, including a senior officers’ reception in Cosford’s Cold War Museum plus a superb dinner with first-class entertainment. Specially-designed corporate packages are also available.
